With single-family homes comprising 80 percent of the region’s housing stock, housing options are limited on Cape Cod.
With the lack of diversity in housing type, fewer homes for sale, increasing home and construction prices, and strong competition for homes from second homeowners it is increasingly challenging to affordably secure year-round housing in the region.
The Cape Cod Commission has launched a survey seeking responses from Cape Codders about their preferences for housing development and redevelopment.
The survey focuses on different types of housing, varying in scale from accessory dwelling units to duplexes to larger scale multi-family developments, in an effort to gain insight into preferences related to the type and location of housing.
The Regional Housing Strategy will address Cape Cod’s unique housing supply, affordability, and availability issues by identifying appropriate areas for housing development and redevelopment as well as policies and strategies to further its goals. Successful implementation of the Regional Housing Strategy will provide residents with safe and attainable housing and will provide a more reliable workforce and customer base for our local businesses.
“We are looking forward to gathering input from a wide range of residents across the region,” said Cape Cod Commission Executive Director Kristy Senatori. “Survey responses will help inform future housing development and redevelopment strategies to respond to the region’s need for increased housing types and options.”
Survey questions address housing design, various housing types, appropriate locations for new housing development and redevelopment, and other housing development considerations. The survey will take most respondents 10 to 15 minutes to complete. It is available in English, Portuguese, and Spanish.
