The Cape Cod Commission is inviting Cape and Islands students in grades 9 through 12 to apply for the Climate Ambassador Program, an initiative to educate, engage and empower young people on Cape Cod to work together to combat the impacts of climate change.
Students who would like to develop a better understanding of climate change, learn how to communicate effectively about climate, and learn what actions can be taken individually and collectively to bring about change are encouraged to apply to participate in the four-month program.
The Climate Ambassador program consists of seven virtual meetings to be held on Tuesday afternoons from January to April 2022. Students will learn about and discuss a variety of climate-related subjects, including local and global climate causes and impacts, carbon reduction strategies, resiliency planning, and equity considerations. Students will have the opportunity to show off their knowledge and creativity with a small project demonstrating how they can have a personal impact on climate change at home or in their school communities.
Virtual information sessions will take place on November 9th and November 30th. These identical sessions will be held from 4:00 to 4:30 PM and are open to students and teachers who are interested in learning more about the program.
Interested students may apply online at www.capecodcommission.org/climate-ambassadors. Applicants are encouraged to detail why they are interested in climate change, their current knowledge of climate change, and what they hope to learn or accomplish by being a part of the Climate Ambassador Program. A reference from a teacher or guidance counselor is required. Applications are due by midnight on Dec. 13, 2021.
