Cape Events Mark Bay State Bike Month

The Cape Cod Commission and the Cape Cod Regional Transit Authority will join regional and state-wide efforts to celebrate bicycling as an alternative to driving motor vehicles during Bay State Bike Month in September. Several bike-related are taking place, starting this week.

A Social Media Challenge will be held Monday, Sept. 20, through Thursday, Sept. 30. Post a photo from a bike ride or outing this month, share a picture of your favorite bike trail, or where you’d like to see bicycle improvements on Cape Cod. Post to Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, or Linkedin using the hashtag #capecodbikemonth2021 and you’ll be entered to win a Nantucket Bicycle Basket.

Cape Cod Adaptive Cycling with Spaulding Adaptive Sports Center takes place Wednesday, Sept. 22, and Saturday, Sept. 28, at 9 a.m. at McGraw Center at Nickerson State Parkin Brewster. Experience adaptive cycling the Cape Cod Rail Trail. Spaulding Adaptive Sports Center is offering adaptive cycling sessions to help you reach your personal sport and recreation goals while working directly with an experienced staff member. Spaulding provides a fleet of three-wheeled adaptive cycles including hand cycles, recumbent leg-cycles, tandem cycles and youth leg or hand-powered cycles.. All abilities are welcome. Free Bike Safety Checks and eBike demonstrations will be offered on Thursday, Sept. 23, from 2 to 4 p.m. at Cape Cod Rail Trail at Main Street, Dennis, sponsored by the Cape Cod Commission and SeaSports Cyclery. Stop by for free bike lights and gear; view maps of the region’s long-term vision of a complete bike path system from Falmouth to Provincetown. SeaSports Cyclery from Hyannis will be offering free bike safety checks, tune-ups and eBike demonstrations. Enter a raffle to win a Nantucket Bike Basket.

A Bike Commuter Breakfast will be held Wednesday, Sept. 29, from 7 to 9 a.m.  at the Shining Sea Bikeway at Surf Drive and at Goodwill Park Connector, Falmouth. Stop by Surf Drive or the Goodwill Park Connector on your commute along the Shining Sea Bikeway for breakfast goodies and coffee to hear what’s happening in Falmouth cycling and meet other commuters, and enter a raffle to win a Nantucket Bike Basket. Rain date: Thursday, Sept. 30. Hosted by the Falmouth Bicycle and Pedestrian Committee; Participating organizations: Cape Cod Commission and MassBike.

Fare Free Fridays on the CCRTA through September, sponsored by the Cape Cod Regional Transit Authority. Enjoy a free ride on the CCRTA every Friday this month. All CCRTA buses are equipped with a bike rack. Take the opportunity to check out a new place to ride your bike this month without using your car.
