(Hyannis, MA – November 11, 2019) – Cape Cod Healthcare is pleased to announce that Cape Cod Hospital and Falmouth Hospital have earned a national distinction for excellence in patient safety. The two hospitals received an “A,” the highest grade available, in The Leapfrog Group’s patient safety rating program.
More than 2,600 acute care hospitals across the United States were issued a Hospital Safety Grade. The Hospital Safety Grade rates hospitals on how safe they are for patients. Each score, ranging from A to F, is derived from expert analysis of publicly available data on rates of infections, injuries and errors. The scores for each hospital are available at www.HospitalSafetyScore.org.
“‘A’ hospitals show us their leadership is protecting patients from preventable medical harm and error,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “It takes genuine commitment at every level – from clinicians to administrators to the board of directors – and we congratulate the teams who have worked so hard to earn this A.”
Calculated under the guidance of The Leapfrog Group’s national Expert Panel, the Hospital Safety Score uses 28 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to produce a single score representing a hospital’s overall capacity to keep patients safe from infections, injuries and medical and medication errors. The Hospital Safety Grade’s methodology is peer-reviewed and fully transparent, and the results are free to the public.
“At Cape Cod Healthcare, we are committed to providing the highest quality, safest care to our patients on Cape Cod. This national, independent recognition reinforces the value of our commitment and how that translates to the best possible care for our community, said Cape Cod Healthcare president and CEO Michael K. Lauf. “We appreciate the Leapfrog Group’s dedication to transparency so patients can make well informed decisions about where they receive their care.”
