Cape Light Compact Announces Local Renewalble Power Supply Option

South Yarmouth, MA – Cape Light Compact is pleased to announce “CLC Local Green,” a new power supply option for Cape Cod and Martha’s Vineyard residents and businesses. CLC Local Green will allow customers to choose to have an additional 50% or 100% of their annual electricity usage matched with Massachusetts Class 1 Renewable Energy Credits (RECs).
MA Class 1 RECs provide extra support for local renewable resources because electricity suppliers are required to purchase an increasing amount of Class 1 RECs every year to meet state requirements for renewable energy purchases. By voluntarily purchasing additional Class 1 RECs, Cape Light Compact power supply customers are creating additional demand for Class 1 RECs, incentivizing more renewable energy development in New England.
CLC Local Green RECs will be sourced from renewable resources located in New England, including several solar facilities on Cape Cod.
“The CLC Local Green Power Supply program builds upon the Compact’s legacy of supporting renewable energy. Our customers have been asking how they can better support renewable energy locally through their power supply, and we believe this option offers customers the chance to do just that,” said Maggie Downey, Compact Administrator.
The RECs offered through the program are in addition to the renewables already being supported through the Compact’s standard green aggregation offering, which was launched in 2017. All of the benefits and protections of the Compact’s standard green aggregation offering still apply, but CLC Local Green customers will be providing extra support for renewable energy based in New England and on Cape Cod.
Pricing premiums for the CLC Local Green options are 1.3 cents/kWh for CLC Local Green 50%, and 2.7 cents/kWh for CLC Local Green 100%. These are in addition to the price of the Compact’s standard green aggregation power supply.
