HYANNIS, MA—February 5, 2019
The Cape Symphony & Conservatory is pleased to announce that the organization has selected Dorothy Savarese, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Cape Cod Five Cents Savings Bank, as the first recipient of the Warren Marsh Cultural Ambassador award.
The award was created to honor community leaders that have a history of recognizing the importance of artistic and cultural endeavors in the Cape community. The first Warren Marsh Cultural Ambassador award will be presented at the inaugural gala Crescendo: An Evening of Joy, benefiting the Cape Symphony & Conservatory in May.
“Dorothy’s commitment to the arts has been unwavering. She has been an avid supporter of community theater, dance, music and visual arts that enrich the lives of Cape residents,” said Cape Symphony & Conservatory Chief Operating Officer Linda Mawhinney.
Before moving to Cape Cod 25 years ago, Savarese had a sentimental attachment to the region after a childhood punctuated by memorable family trips to the Cape each year. It’s no surprise that she eventually chose to call Cape Cod her home and has been proudly serving as Chairman and President and Chief Executive Officer of Cape Cod Five Cents Savings Bank since 2005. Savarese is the past chair of the American Bankers Association, was appointed by the Federal Reserve Board to serve on their Community Depository Institutions Advisory Council and named one of the 25 Most Powerful Women in Banking by American Banker Magazine.
“It is clear that Dorothy is a powerful leader and role model in the Cape community. We want to recognize her for her dedication and devotion to cultural causes across the Cape, going above and beyond as a leader supporting and celebrating community initiatives not only by her own personal contributions, but also by encouraging her staff to be involved,” said Mawhinney. “We are grateful for all that Dorothy’s personal and professional leadership has done for the community and particularly for the Cape Symphony & Conservatory.”
A formal presentation of the award will take place on Friday, May 10th during Crescendo: An Evening of Joy at Willowbend in Mashpee beginning at 6 p.m. The event will be co-hosted by Cape Symphony Artistic Director and Conductor Jung-Ho Pak and Cape Conservatory Executive Director Stephanie Weaver. The Cape Symphony will also perform, and the evening will include fine dining and exclusive silent and live auction items. Serving as emcee and auctioneer for the night will be Jimmy Tingle, humorist, commentator and founder of “Humor for Humanity.” Tingle has worked as a humorist and commentator for “60 Minutes II” and “MSNBC,” and has appeared on “The Tonight Show,” “CNN,” “Conan O’Brien,” “Fresh Air with Terry Gross” and in his own HBO half-hour comedy special. About the Warren Marsh Cultural Ambassador Award
The Warren Marsh Award for Cultural Commitment was created in recognition of long-time Cape Symphony & Conservatory board member and former Chair, the late Warren Marsh. Marsh was a prominent supporter of the organization and played a significant role in its growth, as a board member for nearly a decade and then serving as Chair just after the merger of the Cape Symphony & Conservatory in 2010. This award is designed to honor his contributions and serve as a legacy to his commitment to the arts.
