Community Connections Inc., a nonprofit serving people with disabilities throughout Southeastern Massachusetts and Cape Cod, recently held its Community Heart Awards celebration dinner at the Rosebrook Event Center in Wareham.
Community Connections recognized 40 businesses and individuals for their shared commitment to a world in which people with intellectual and developmental disabilities are valued, respected, and included. Of those recognized, twelve were honored with a Community Heart Award including Employer of the Year awards going to Eastham Ace Hardware for Cape Cod, and Lee’s Market in Westport for the South Coast, and Kind Heart awards to Whole Health Pharmacy, Hyannis and Healthcare Pharmacy Inc., Fall River for their instrumental support during the COVID-19 pandemic. State Senator Michael Rodrigues, First Bristol and Plymouth District was honored as Legislator of the Year for his efforts on behalf of the disability community and their support providers.
“We live in a time where barriers are being broken, where perceptions are shifting, and people with disabilities are being recognized as valuable contributors to society,” said Community Connections President and CEO. David Botting. “Everyone we honor tonight has played an instrumental role in shattering stereotypes, fostering equal opportunities, and creating spaces that enable individuals with disabilities to shine.”
