Cape Cod Healthcare Foundation has announced that Falmouth Hospital has received a $5 million charitable donation from L. Ronald and Marcatherine (Markay) Capozzoli.
Their gift will support construction of a new surgical suite at Falmouth Hospital that will be named The Capozzoli Surgical Suite.
The Capozzolis’ strong family ties to Falmouth inspired their generous donation and their desire to give back to their beloved community. Ron’s father bought property on Eel Pond adjacent to Menauhant Beach in 1948 and it’s been his family’s home ever since. The couple believes their donation will make a significant impact on the community.
“I have been fortunate to be coming to our family’s home in Falmouth for 75 years and it is a very special place for Markay and me,” said Ron, a successful general contractor and real estate developer, during a recent interview. “We thought it was the right time to do something for our community that demonstrates our appreciation for the wonderful times our family has had and continues to have here.”
When it came time for Ron and Markay to decide on how best to make a significant impact on their community, Falmouth Hospital was the first place that came to mind. “We could not think of a better way to celebrate Ron’s 75 years in Falmouth than investing in our hospital. It is such an asset for residents and visitors alike,” said Markay.
With the new construction, the total number of operating rooms at Falmouth Hospital will increase from five to seven and utilize space previously occupied by the intensive care unit at the hospital. The new surgical suite will expand surgical services, offer state-of-the art technology and equipment, create additional access and help recruit the best physicians and staff. This facility is part of CCHC’s commitment to investing in enhanced patient care at Falmouth Hospital. Construction on The Capozzoli Surgical Suite will begin after an extensive planning period subsequent to the Salerno Intensive Care Unit opening at Falmouth Hospital this fall.
