CARE for the Cape & Islands invites nonprofit organizations to apply for its 2024 project grants. The application deadline is Feb. 12, 2024.

CARE for the Cape and Islands projects help to preserve and protect Cape & Islands’ natural environment, culture and historic places. Each year we seek proposals from local nonprofits that fit within five themes including Carbon Footprint Reduction, Environmental Stewardship, Food and Culture, and Infrastructure and Sense of Place. These projects lead the Cape and Islands community one step closer to long-term sustainability and the protection of our fragile environment.

Most grants range from $1,000 to $2,000. Projects should be those whose impacts are continued, lasting, easily maintained and reach/touch a significant number of people.  Preference is given to Cape Cod and Islands projects. Funding themes include:
●      Environmental education
●      Environmental stewardship
●      Infrastructure for community livability
●      Sense of place
●      Food and culture
●      Reduce and reuse
●      Protection of the natural environment, cultural and historical elements
Past grants have funded water-filling stations, exhibit signage, a Falmouth Bikeways Guide, an Interpretive Food Forest Exhibit at Long Pasture Nature Sanctuary, Hyannis Sea Captains’ Row Mural, Cape Cod Commercial Fishermen’s Alliance: Learning Book and Pier Host Program, a Beach Trash to Shore Project on Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard Deaf Heritage Tour, among many others.

A complete list of previous projects can be found at: https://careforthecapeandislands.org/projects-3/

Preference is given to projects with budgets that limit overhead expenses in their project budgets to no more than 10 percent. Special attention will be given to projects that include a hands-on/experiential opportunity.
