The Greater Hyannis Chamber of Commerce is gearing up for its annual Father’s Day Car Show on Sunday, June 18, on Main St. in Hyannis, featuring 350 classic vehicles.
Attracting everything from hot rods to restored models, and classic cars from every era, the Father’s Day Car Show is Cape Cod’s largest one-day spectator event and one of the largest yearly cars shows in New England. Hyannis Main Street businesses and restaurants will be open for shopping and dining and various food trucks will be available during the show.
This year’s event will feature an appearance throughout the show by the “First Lady of Drag Racing” Shirley Muldowney.
Muldowney shattered nearly every glass ceiling in racing as the first woman to receive a license from the National Hot Rod Association to drive a Top Fuel Dragster. She also won the NHRA Top Fuel Championships in 1977, 1980 and 1982, becoming the first person to win two and three Top Fuel Titles.
Known on the racing circuit as “Cha Cha,” Muldowney won a total of 18 NHRA national events in her racing career. Muldowney’s appearance is sponsored by Copeland Chevrolet Hyannis and Copeland Subaru Hyannis.
The weekend will jump-start on Friday night at Copeland Chevrolet Hyannis at 22 Ridgewood Ave. in Hyannis with the Friday Night Classic Cruise & Kick-Off Party beginning at 5:30 p.m. Bring your classic car to Copeland Chevrolet Hyannis and meet Mecum Auto Auctions TV Host Bill Stephens, who in addition to his TV hosting work, is a nationally published author of several motorsports books.
Stephens has an extensive history in radio broadcasting and is also a writer for various automotive television programs.
The Friday night event will feature food trucks, music, and giveaways. Each participant in the Friday show will have a chance to win hundreds of dollars in prizes, ranging from ferry tickets to complete golf packages and restaurant gift cards.
One participant will win the Grand Prize of a $200 Jegs gift card.
On Saturday night, head to Patriot Square on Route 134 in Dennis for the Cape Cod Classics Car Club weekly cruise. Both the Friday night Kick-Off and the Saturday evening cruise are great ways to get ready for the Father’s Day Car Show on Sunday.
Greater Hyannis Chamber of Commerce Father’s Day Car Show sponsors include Angel’s Touch Auto Body and Detail, Horgan Insurance, Hyannis Auto Accessories, Copeland Chevrolet Hyannis, Copeland Subaru Hyannis, Hampton Inn & Suites Cape Cod, Cape Cod Five, Advanced Embroidery, Chez Antoine Café and Hagerty.
