The cider that launched the High Limb Cider company was recently honored with a Silver Medal at the eighth annual U.S. Open Cider Championship. This award comes on the heels of their Gold Medal win in 2021 for their Pumpkin Spice cider in the Spiced Cider category.

The Plymouth, Mass.-made OG hard cider won in the Traditional Cider category. It was among more than 290 ciders representing 25 different styles competing for honors at this prestigious competition, which features cideries, wineries and breweries from Washington State to France. The first round of judging was held at the Big Ditch Brewing Company in Buffalo, New York. The final round of judging was held in Oxford, Ohio. Judging in the U.S. Open Cider Championships is blind, and the judges do not know what ciders they were tasting.

“We are beyond thrilled to have won this Silver Medal for the cider that started it all,” said Jeremy Quaglia, owner of Homestead Beverages, creator of High Limb Cider.

OG

OG is a hand-crafted local cider bursting with fresh apple cider flavor, fermented to make a crisp, lightly carbonated cider that’s a perfectly balanced semi-sweet offering. This recognition, Quaglia said, is a testament to High Limb’s more restrained approach, using the best ingredients and process to achieve depth of flavor and fruitiness uncompromised by lower residual sugar offerings

“While the name OG is “famously short for ‘Original Gangster,’ which OG certainly is in our lineup of ciders, it is actually derived from the term ‘Original Gravity,’ which is the sugar content of the cider before the start of fermentation,” explained Jeremy Quaglia.

High Limb Cider currently has four, year-round ciders: OG, Core, Honeypot and Light, along with countless other seasonal and innovative releases including in its Freshly Baked, Batch and Noble series, and even to a cider fermented with oyster shells. The cider styles all reflect High Limb’s mission to “Refresh Tradition”, by creating unique modern cider, inspired by traditional techniques. The in-season ciders can be sampled at its Tap Room co-located with G Pub at 101 Carver Road, Plymouth.

High Limb Cider is produced by Homestead Beverages, founded in 2013, whose mission is helping the cider industry evolve by creating unique modern cider, inspired by traditional techniques. The cidery experiments with flavors, finding inspiration from New England’s four seasons.
