Home Builders and Remodelers of Cape Cod, Habitat Kick Off 2022 Blitz Build

This year’s Home Builders and Remodelers Association of Cape Cod and Habitat for Humanity Cape Cod Blitz Build will take place in Falmouth from Sept. 19 through Sept. 23.

Staff and volunteers from both organizations recently gathered at Bad Martha Farmer’s Brewery in Falmouth to celebrate the official kickoff of the 2022 Blitz Build.

A Blitz Build is a home that is built from frame to finish in one week to help bring awareness to the affordable housing crisis on Cape Cod.  Hundreds of HBRACC members and their suppliers will donate countless hours of skilled labor and materials to build an affordable home to be sold to a qualifying local family.

Jackie Sorenson and her two children, Layla, 6, and Jay, 2, are this year’s deserving Blitz Build family. Sorenson, along with past Blitz Build families, were present to share their experiences and gratitude for the life-changing opportunity the Blitz Build program provides.

2022 Blitz Family scaledThis year marks HBRACC’s fifth Blitz Build for Habitat for Humanity. This program makes it possible for Habitat to build more homes without overextending capacity or significantly increasing overhead. Home Builders Blitz events create relationships with local builders, many of whom become regular volunteers with Habitat and/or donors to their ReStores. Home Builders Blitz also gives local builders a chance to give back to their community and to network with other builders and suppliers.

“The Blitz Build is an amazing representation of the HBRACC Membership and our commitment to our communities,” said Chris Flanagan, Executive Officer for the Home Builders and Remodelers Association of Cape Cod. “All of the materials and the time it takes to build the house has been donated. Our members are involved in every facet of the build. Building an affordable home for a deserving family is something we are all proud to be a part of”.

“We are hugely grateful that the HBRACC members continue to enthusiastically embrace the challenge of fully funding and then building a Habitat home in just five days.  Aside from the opportunity it offers to the local family purchasing it, the Blitz home has served to build awareness of the tremendous affordable housing need here on Cape Cod,” said Wendy Cullinan, President and CEO of Habitat for Humanity of Cape Cod.
