The Big 3 Fishing Committee, Lawrence Lynch and Hog Island Beer Co. are teaming up for a Big Brothers Big Sisters of Cape Cod & the Islands’ “Erase the Wait Campaign” information event on Friday, March 31, at Hog Island Beer Co., West Road, Orleans, from 4:30 to 6 p.m.
“Erase the Wait is the largest, targeted volunteer recruitment campaign we have launched in our 49-year history,” said JR Mell, Regional Director with BBBS. “We are challenging ourselves, and our community, to recruit 72 volunteers for the 72 deserving youth seeking a mentor during the month of March. If successful, this campaign will effectively erase our waitlist of kids on the Cape & Islands.”
Those interested in learning more about ways to get involved with Big Brothers Big Sisters are encouraged to attend. Thanks to event sponsor Lawrence Lynch Corp. and event partner Hog Island Beer Co., there is no cost, or commitment to attend. The event will include complimentary hors d’oeuvres and a drink. Additionally, Nauset Marine has donated a half-day boat rental for six people on a Boston Whaler 21-foot Ventura as a door prize. Live music kicks off at 6 p.m. and attendees are welcome to stay for the remainder of the evening.
The Big 3 Committee is chaired by Shawn DeLude, Jeff Leerink and John Our and comprised of Jonas Baker, Courtney Bridge, Chris Cooney, Ben Crago, Chris Lynch, Jeff Perry, Kyle Prussing and Alexandre Theoharidis.
The Big 3 Tournament was founded in 2014 in conjunction with BBBSCCI Leadership Council co-chairs, E.J. and Terry Jaxtimer and has raised $3.15 million, resulting in the creation of more than 1,110 new one-to-one mentoring friendships. This year’s tournament will celebrate its 10th anniversary and will take place on Friday, July 7.
With more than 50 of the youth waiting being boys seeking a Big Brother, BBBSCCI is especially in need of male- identifying volunteers.
Registration is encouraged and guests must be 21 or older to attend. Registration and more information can be found at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/erase-the-wait-at-hog-island-tickets-568251624907 or at the BBBS of Cape Cod & the Islands Facebook Page: https://www.facebook.com/capebigs
