Low-Numbered License Plate Online Auction Starts Oct. 22

The online auction for low-numbered plates in the new CP (Cape Plates) series of Cape & Islands license plates will be live from Saturday, Oct. 22, at 6 a.m. through Wednesday, Oct. 26, at 5 p.m.

The auction features the highly sought-after, low-numbered CP series plates from numbers 1 through 999.

Interested buyers are encouraged to register now on the online bidding platform to receive updates once the auction goes live. Interested bidders can also register by texting CILicensePlate to 76278. Once the auction is live, participants can bid in real-time from desktop, mobile and tablet.

The Cape & Islands License Plate is the most successful specialty license plate in Massachusetts with nearly 35,000 active plates currently on the road. Introduced in 1996, the well-known plate features Eastham’s Nauset Lighthouse along with the cliffs of Siasconset in Nantucket and Gay Head on Martha’s Vineyard. The plate captures the distinct beauty of this coastal region and is the perfect way to keep alive cherished memories of time spent here.

Since its inception, sales of the Cape & Islands License Plate have raised more than $25 million with the goal to spur the growth of small businesses and build a better business climate. To date, plate sales have helped nearly 550 different local organizations.   

Revenues generated by the sales of the Cape & Islands license plate support several initiatives pertaining to the region’s economic development including community grants, small business loans, the arts, and workforce training. Proceeds are targeted to programs that support the growth and stability of the year-round economy and local organizations.
