Massachusetts Maritime Academy Announces Commencement Honorees

BUZZARDS BAY, MA, ISSUED MAY 28, 2024…Massachusetts Maritime Academy (MMA; www.maritime.edu), a top-ranked public university with undergraduate degree programs focusing on science, engineering, technology, math, and business that blend academics and experiential learning, today announced the following honorees who will be recognized during the Class of 2024 Commencement Exercises on Saturday, June 22nd:
  • Brig. Gen. Enoch “Woody” Woodhouse, the last surviving member of the Tuskegee Airmen, a group of distinguished all-Black military aviators in the U.S. Army Air Corps. who served in World War II.
  • State Senator Michael J. Rodriques, (D-First Bristol and Plymouth Counties), Chairperson of the Senate Committee on Ways and Means, Chairperson Joint Committee on Ways and Means, Vice Chair Senate Committee on Steering and Policy, and Senate Committee on Bills in the Third Reading.
  • Leon Topalian, a member of the Massachusetts Maritime Academy Class of ’90, Chair, President and Chief Executive Officer of Nucor, a manufacturer of steel and steel products with operating facilities in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
  • Evangelos Marinakis, Founder and Chairman of Capital Maritime Trading Corp. and one of the leading shipowners in the maritime industry.

McDonald, USMS, president of the Massachusetts Maritime Academy. “Each of these outstanding individuals are held in esteemed respect for their distinctive contributions within their fields and to society in general.”
