SOUTH YARMOUTH –The Cape Cod Foundation is now accepting nominations for the Joshua A. Nickerson Society Award.  The annual award recognizes individuals for their civic leadership on Cape Cod.  Nominations are due Friday, November 15. The nomination form is online at http://www.capecodfoundation.org/learn.
To date, more than 30 local citizens, who have made lasting contributions in the areas of conservation, arts, science, education, health, and democracy, have received this honorary award.
Tony and Lorraine Shepley, owners of the Shepley Wood Products company, received the award in 2018 for their numerous leadership roles in the community and longstanding support of local organizations that champion health, human services, and housing.
The Society was established in 1982 in memory of Joshua A. Nickerson II, who played an integral part in the development and preservation of many local institutions, such as the Cape Cod Hospital, Cape Playhouse, Cape Cod National Seashore, and the Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce, where his father had been a founding member.
Earlier this year, the Society became a permanent program of The Cape Cod Foundation, which will use its experience and resources to champion Nickerson’s legacy and promote the award within the community.  The Society’s current trustees continue to serve as the Society’s Advisory Council.
The Cape Cod Foundation is a community foundation whose mission is to build permanent charitable resources for community betterment through informed grantmaking and civic leadership. The Foundation has distributed nearly $70 million in grants and scholarships since its founding in 1989.  www.capecodfoundation.org
