FALMOUTH, Mass. – On Wednesday, September 18 at 9 a.m., runners will get their chance to register for limited spots at the annual Shipwrecked Falmouth in the Fall. Produced by Falmouth Road Race, Inc., Shipwrecked Falmouth in the Fall (FITF) traverses the same 7-mile course as the organization’s ASICS Falmouth Road Race. The event has been approved to welcome just 1,500 runners to its beachfront course. The race is expected to sell out quickly as it has in past years. “Running along our iconic coastline and by the famous Nobska Lighthouse is a bucket-list item for runners all across the country. Shipwrecked Falmouth in the Fall is a chance for those who might not be able to join us at our August event to take to the course in the off-season,” said Executive Director Jennifer Edwards. “Whether you’re local or visiting from afar, Cape Cod in autumn will not disappoint. Don’t wait! Registration for this boutique take on our beloved event will likely sell out in the first 24 hours.”
The race itself will take place on Nov. 3 at 11 a.m., taking participants from Woods Hole to Falmouth Heights. Runners will receive their 2024 FITF pom-pom hat at one of the pre-race parties when they pick up their bib. Pre-race parties in the days leading up to the race will take place at The Run House, Timber Axe Bar & Bowl and Shipwrecked with special deals and offers for participants. The fun will continue after the run at the Finish Festival and Beer Garden, held at Shipwrecked Restaurant, where runners will receive a bag with post-race refreshments as well as complimentary chowder and other treats. They can see the Patriots game, shop for official race merchandise, pose in front of the festive FITF backdrop or try their hand at Steinholding. Other community partners supporting the event are Compassionate Care ALS (CCALS), Coxswain Media, and Penske.
The road race has been held each autumn since 1979, and came under the direction of Falmouth Road Race, Inc in 2020. The seven-mile race was founded by Jack Oser, along with Jim and Betty Gehris, long-time Falmouth Road Race volunteers. Each year, a portion of the proceeds of the event are donated to a featured charity partner to assist in the work it does to support the Falmouth community. For those who prefer to support runners in their journey, volunteer positions will also be available to help bring the race to life.
The course for Shipwrecked Falmouth in the Fall is an open race course. Streets are open to traffic, so it is important for participants to stay to the right (running with traffic) and always be aware of their surroundings. Due to this element, the race will have a ‘pulse start’ and jogging strollers and dogs are not permitted.
