MARSHFIELD, MA, ISSUED JANUARY 8, 2024… Road to Responsibility (RTR; http://roadtoresponsibility.org), one of the region’s largest and most successful nonprofit organizations supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, is partnering with the University of Florida Reality Lab and Reality Garage to create an immersive program, particularly for individuals on the autism spectrum.

This partnership is part of a larger collaboration with WORK Inc., South Shore Support Services, and the Arc of Bristol County, in which each organization is working with another virtual reality-focused-firm to help create better tools for individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities.  This unique collaboration between the four regional leading providers of services to those with intellectual and developmental disabilities will result in a number of virtual reality scenarios that address mindfulness and emotional regulation, teach alternate behaviors, instruct in social skills, and provide job specific training, from which they all can benefit

Beta-testing is currently being conducted on the virtual reality scenarios.
“We are excited to partner with these two well established virtual reality design teams as we explore the ways technology can make a difference in the lives of those we serve,” said Christopher T. White, Ed.D., president and CEO of Road to Responsibility. “And we are equally excited to collaborate with WORK Inc., South Shore Support Services, and the Arc of Bristol County on this very special program.”
The University of Florida Reality Lab at the Digital Worlds Institute explores and promotes research and educational endeavors in virtual and augmented reality.
Reality Garage is recognized as the foremost virtual reality production company in Colorado and specializes in immersive productions for a number of industries including healthcare/wellness.
Celebrating over 35 years of making lives better, Road to Responsibility, Inc. (RTR) was established in 1988 with the overarching belief that individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities deserve to have full, rich, and rewarding lives in the community, and therefore works to provide the means, the opportunity, and the support necessary to allow citizens with disabilities to take their place as productive members of the community. RTR offers residential, work/employment, day habilitation and other day supports to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. RTR supports individuals with very diverse needs, including those with significant challenges who would otherwise go unserved if not for RTR. It succeeds where other organizations often fail, through the use of an integrated clinical behavioral approach. This model has proven successful and yielded positive results for the organization and the individuals served.
