Road To Responsibility Receives $500 Donation from Kiwanis

Road to Responsibility, which offers residential, work/employment, day habilitation and other day supports to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, recently received a donation of $500 from the Kiwanis Club of Marshfield, in support of the organization’s residence homes in Marshfield throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.

Road to Responsibility is facing several challenges and lasting effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, while continuing to serve more than 200 individuals in its residences and working toward the organization’s mission of making their lives better.  Additionally, as a result of the closure of Road to Responsibility day programs, individuals are losing out on valuable goal implementation, therapeutic services, and social interaction with their peers, all of which tremendously benefit their mental and physical health.  The closure also affects the organization financially, as it reduces the organization’s funding by one-third.

Despite this, expenses continue to increase, with a tremendous amount of money spent on personal protective equipment, and additional wages, overtime, and benefit time for staffing in RTR’s 49 residential homes.  Staffing has increased during this time due to individuals now being in their homes during the day, and major overtime expenses for staff who are quarantined within a residence have also increased.

“Despite the challenges we face as an organization in light of the ongoing pandemic, local organizations like the Kiwanis Club of Marshfield continue to step up and offer much-needed support in this difficult time,” said Christopher T. White, president and CEO of Road To Responsibility, Inc.  “We are so grateful for their commitment to ensuring that everyone in their community is taken care of, and we truly appreciate their generous gift, which will go far in ensuring the continued safety and well-being of our members and staff.”

Road To Responsibility’s main office is located at 1831 Ocean Street, Marshfield, MA.  For more information, please contact Erin Cohen at 781-536-4509 or ecohen@rtrinc.org, or visit www.roadtoresponsibility.org.
