Rockland Trust Launches Free Summer Programming for Local Families

Hanover, MA – June 04, 2024 – Join Rockland Trust for financial literacy fun this summer. Families are invited to stop by their local Rockland Trust branch to pick up a Summer Savers & FUNdraisers kit. Inside each kit, they’ll find materials for the Bank’s annual Reading Makes Cent$ program and Tommy’s Place Lemonade Stand, information about Ms. Money’s Classroom, and a couple of fun extras!
“As a community-oriented bank, we are committed to helping family members of all ages and backgrounds develop a healthy relationship with money,” said Margaret McCarthy, Chief Retail Banking Officer at Rockland Trust. “Our Summer Savers & FUNdraisers program provides parents and guardians with an opportunity to talk to their kids about earning, saving, and sharing. As the end of the school year approaches, our branch teams await the return of familiar faces and the chance to introduce new community members to the importance of financial literacy!”

Summer Savers & FUNdraisers combines three of the Bank’s most popular financial literacy programs:
Reading Makes Cent$: Children entering grades 1-8 are eligible to participate in this program that rewards summer reading. Students will receive a $2.50 deposit into a Rockland Trust Savings Makes Cent$ account for every book they read, up to 10 books or $25. Participants, and a parent or guardian, can find a journal in their Summer Savers & FUNdraisers kit at a local branch or visit RocklandTrust.com/Read to download it online.
Lemonade Stand: This initiative teaches children about giving back. Across the Bank’s footprint, families will host lemonade stands to raise money for Tommy’s Place, a nonprofit creating magical vacation experiences for children battling cancer and their families. Children will find supplies for this program inside their Summer Savers & FUNdraisers kit. After they host their stand, they can bring the funds raised back to their local branch by the end of September.
Ms. Money’s Classroom: In Ms. Money’s Classroom, students can sing the tune of financial literacy in English, Spanish, and Portuguese! This complimentary online program features a step-by-step lesson plan, worksheets, and songs to help families and teachers talk about money in an engaging and interactive way.
