Sage Montessori School Opens in Hyannis

Sage Montessori School at 26 Chestnut St., Hyannis is now accepting a small number of students ages 2 years, 9 months through 6 years old into its one room facility.

Sage Montessori is open year round, with exception for some school vacations, five days a week from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

“Montessori education may be the best kept secret in early childhood education,” said school founder Ed Stanford.  “I founded Sage Montessori to share that secret with families on Cape Cod.”

Stanford has been an early education professional for more than 20 years. After living overseas and working with children in Montessori environments for 13 years, he returned to the U.S. to establish Sage Montessori School with the mission to make Montessori education a realistic option for all families.

The Montessori Method combines strong social-emotional support and differentiated instruction.  This unique blend, and the prepared environment, empowers children to independently choose activities that engage their interest and simultaneously provide enjoyment and academic lessons. Sage Montessori is the only Montessori school in the Mid Cape area.

Montessori founder Dr. Maria Montessori was a physician, professor, leader in the women’s rights movement and a pioneer in the fields of developmental psychology, special needs education and early childhood education.  More than a century ago she developed her “Scientific Pedagogy,” more commonly known today as the Montessori Method, through decades of observation and research with children all over the world.  The Montessori Method continues to respect and support the unique developmental needs of children everyday in schools all around the world.

Stanford added that Sage Montessori School values and celebrates diversity and strives to develop programs that are inclusive of different racial, ethnic, religious, and economic backgrounds.
