A Hyannis restaurant known for its spicy Mexican cuisine is celebrating a cool victory for the best ice cream in Barnstable.
Sam Diego’s Mexican Cookery, located on Iyannough Road, won the competition in the Greater Hyannis Chamber of Commerce’s Barnstable Bucket List contest in August, as voted by diners who sampled ice cream at various eating establishments.
Sam Diego’s, known for their famous deep-fried ice cream, recently introduced a new flavor… coffee ice cream coated with a crunchy chocolate crust topped with whipped cream, hot fudge and caramel sauce.
“We want to thank all of the ice cream parlors and restaurants who participated in the August Barnstable Bucket List competition. This event was the perfect way to showcase our local eateries and gave the public a chance to vote for their favorite ice cream” said Marty Bruemmel, President and CEO of the Greater Hyannis Chamber of Commerce.
The September competition for best clam chowder is currently underway. All restaurants in the Town of Barnstable are invited to participate and can sign up by contacting Marty Bruemmel at the GHCC at 508-775-7778.
This event was developed by the Greater Hyannis Chamber of Commerce and is designed to entice visitors and locals to taste and vote for the top three foods that people love and crave in the summer… lobster rolls, ice cream and clam chowder. Restaurants, eateries, clam shacks, ice cream parlors and more will compete to earn the title, “Best of Barnstable” and a Golden Bucket Award.
