ROCKLAND, HINGHAM, ISSUED JULY 1, 2024… The South Shore Food Bank, working in partnership with the Greater Boston Food Bank to improve food access on the South Shore, help address food equity across towns, and help make fresh options more readily available to families relaying on food pantries to meet their needs, is thrilled to announce that $26,000 was raised during its Inaugural Fresh Bite 5K and Citrus Stroll.
The event, which took place on June 15 at Wompatuck State Park in Hingham, attracted 150 runners and walkers of all ages. Funds raised during the event will support the Food Bank’s mission to create food access and equity on the South Shore.
A number of local businesspeople volunteered their time during the event, including yoga instructor Nicole Holland who helped runners stretch out before the race, Jeff Ayers and the Whitman Amateur Radio Club for keeping everyone informed and safe on the trail, photographer Julie Bykowski for documenting the race, and nurse Samantha Coyle for manning the nurses station.
Thanks are also extended to The Fresh Market in Hingham for its donation of fruit, and Ellie’s Treats, a local food truck that was on the grounds for runners and walkers to purchase a cool treat after finishing the race.
“We were blessed with beautiful weather, a fantastic turnout, and amazing sponsors,” said Pamela Denholm, executive director of the South Shore Food Bank. “We can’t thank all the participants, sponsors, donors, volunteers, and our gracious hosts at Wompatuck State Park enough for making our first ever Fresh Bite 5K and Citrus Stroll such an incredible success.”
