Housing Assistance’s popular Oysters & Champagne event will be making a triumphant return on Thursday, July 8, from 5 to 7 p.m., at the Wequassett Resort in Harwich.
The event, which allows guests to sample locally-harvested oysters paired with complimentary sparkling beverages, is already sold out and a waitlist has been started should additional space open up. “The demand for this year’s Oysters & Champagne speaks not only to people’s interest in being able to safely gather together in-person, but in the urgent need to address the region’s housing crisis,” said Housing Assistance Chief Development Officer Anne Van Vleck. “The pandemic has heightened the problem, making it increasingly difficult for our workforce, seniors, and families to be able to afford safe, stable housing on Cape Cod and the Islands.”
Cape Air CEO Dan Wolf, Cape Cod Five CEO Dorothy Savarese, and Shepley Wood Products President Tony Shepley are serving as Fundraising Ambassadors for the event. Ashley Baker and Dave Miller of Chatham, Kristen and Christopher Boyd of Mashpee, Cathy and Jack Brennan of Mashpee, Lindsay Cole and Christopher Ward of Eastham, and Missy and Dave McGraw of Osterville are serving on the Oysters & Champagne Host Committee.
The McGraws have committed to making a significant donation on July 8 that will inspire others to give to reach the fundraising goal of $100,000 for this year’s Oysters & Champagne.
Funds raised from Oysters & Champagne will support Housing Assistance’s programs which include operating four family shelters, homeless outreach, preventing families and individuals from becoming homeless, developing affordable housing, financial literacy classes, reverse mortgage and foreclosure prevention counseling, energy audits and weatherization measures for low-income households, managing nearly 1,200 housing vouchers on the Cape and Islands, and connecting first-time homebuyers to affordable homeownership opportunities in our region.
