“I’m thrilled to speak to the Tech Council,” said Wilcox. “My family has called Orleans home for generations, and I’ve seen firsthand how non-data-driven planning has changed our community. The waters we once swam in are now plagued by algal blooms, and longtime residents are being displaced.”

Wilcox will show how the Cape can use AI to address these larger challenges. “We often think AI is just for big cities like Boston or San Francisco, but its impact could be even more profound in smaller communities like ours on the Cape,” Wilcox said. “With AI, we have a real shot at solving our housing crisis, cleaning up our waters, and creating a sustainable future.”

Technology Council Executive Director Steve Smith said Wilcox’s talk will be of particular interest for municipal leaders, including town planners, in communities throughout the Cape. “This is a great opportunity for our municipal officials to learn how AI can be used to address the important issues we’re facing locally,” Smith said. “Russ can show how cutting-edge technology can be used to preserve and protect this special place we call home.”

Wilcox, who holds a bachelor’s degree in physics from Boston University, has over 16 years’ experience in machine learning and data science. He has spoken at TEDX Boston, the World Economic Forum at Davos, and the University of New Hampshire’s Business Analytics Conference.

He has been featured in Forbes, an expert witness in U.S. Federal Courts, and a guest lecturer at Northeastern University and the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). His expertise spans implementing cutting-edge AI technologies, delivering NLP (Natural Language Processing) models, and advising AI policy at the state and federal levels, working to advance the responsible development and application of artificial intelligence.
