The Cooperative Bank of Cape Cod and The Cooperative Bank of Cape Cod Charitable Foundation Trust have announced the distribution of more than $120,000 in sponsorships and grants to local nonprofits.
“Many nonprofits rely on major summer events for their fundraising,” said Lisa Oliver, Chair, president and CEO of The Cooperative Bank of Cape Cod. “Our commitment to these critical community organizations has not wavered.”
As the ongoing pandemic has left many nonprofits reeling with many in-person fund-raising events cancelled, The Coop has continued its support regardless of cancelled, postponed or virtually held events. The most notable events include the Arts Foundation of Cape Cod annual Pops by the Sea; Big Brothers Big Sisters annual Big 3 Fishing Tournament; Cape Cod Commercial Fishermen’s Alliance annual Hookers Ball; annual sponsorship of the Cape Symphony; Falmouth Museums on the Green annual Teddy Bear Picnic; support for Habitat for Humanity of Cape Cod’s Mashpee Build; WE CAN’s annual A Day of Words, Wit, and Wisdom; and support for the Institute for Nonprofit Practice. Upcoming event sponsorships include Cape Cod Young Professional’s virtual Back to Business Bash and Seaside LeMans, cancelled this year, but the Bank continues its 20 years of sponsorship.
In addition to event sponsorships, The Coop Foundation distributed grants to the following organizations:
Cape and Islands Veterans Outreach Center — $25,000 to go towards the construction of a $950,000 3,500 square-feet, five bedroom, five-bath home to house homeless veterans in Dennis. Construction will not be completed until late fall or early winter. Funds will be used to cover construction costs, as over $722,000 has already been raised in support of the project.
Champ Homes — $5,000 Pandemic Relief Micro Grant to help Champ Homes, which has been particularly hard hit by the COVID-19 pandemic, with more than a third of their participants testing positive for the virus and one fatality. The funds will help purchase additional PPE, including thermal forehead thermometers and cleaning supplies.
Pleasant Bay Community Boating — $2,500 to fund the Greg Kelly Scholarship Fund, which will enable Pleasant Bay Community Boating to award 10 weeks of PBCB’s full-day Science & Sailing Summer Camp to local children and families in financial need.
These second quarter grants follow a previous round of COVID-19 Relief Funds the Coop Foundation awarded earlier this summer, which included A Baby Center; ALS Family Charitable Foundation; Cape Cod Literacy Council; Helping Our Women; Independence House; Lower Cape Outreach Council; Mass Appeal; Neighborhood Falmouth; Provincetown Commons; Yarmouth Food Pantry; and YMCA Cape Cod.
“There are so many fantastic organizations in need of support,” said Oliver. “We will continue to offer our support and services where we can because our commitment to the community is fundamental to who we are.”
