Cyclists gearing up for the inaugural Second Summer Cycle charity bike ride, sponsored by the Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce this fall, can get a head start on training with some cycling-focused workshops in advance of the ride taking place Sunday, Sept. 17.
The inaugural “Second Summer Cycle” is being organized by the Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce. Ride options include a 30 mile Plus (30+ miles), Metric Century Plus (60+ miles), or Century route (nearly 100 miles), with starting locations in Mashpee, Sandwich and Orleans. All riders will finish Provincetown, where they’ll be treated to an after-party with food, local brews and music. The ride will benefit 18 Cape Cod non-profit organizations serving thousands of Cape residents.
Riders interested in group training can take advantage of special spin classes at Nove spin and yoga studio in West Dennis. Second Summer Cycle registered participants are being offered a discounted price of $12 per class. Training classes are suitable for all fitness levels and will help riders boost endurance, muscle strength, balance and mental focus. The training programs run on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Cape Cod Be Fit & Bike Fit will host two complimentary “Basic Bike Maintenance and Roadside Repair” workshops., on April 20 at 5:30 p.m. at Cotuit Center for the Arts, 4404 Falmouth Road, Cotuit. The second session will be held May 8 at 5:30 p..m. at WE CAN, 783 Route 28, Harwich Port. The workshops will cover maintenance schedules, tire pressure, removing wheels, chain care and how to fix a flat. Participants can register at Facebook.com/capecodbefit. Attendees are welcome to bring their bike or just a wheel.
