This week, entrepreneurs Jitka Borowick of Barnstable and Veronika Wills of Falmouth will travel to Washington, D.C. to promote their separate businesses at the Czech Christmas Market on Saturday, Nov. 6.
The two friends, who both emigrated to the United States from the Czech Republic in 2003, will participate in the annual event to expand the reach of their companies which they launched last year. Borowick opened Nové Yoga & Wellness Studio in Dennis, while Wills founded Wills International in Falmouth, a distributor of Czech wines.
The market is being held at the Embassy of the Czech Republic and will promote a variety of Czech-owned businesses in the United States in advance of the holiday season. There are currently 15 businesses set to participate in the market alongside three performing groups that will entertain audiences with live music, including Czech Christmas carols. Prior to the pandemic, the daylong event attracted more than 3,000 people to peruse Czech-made products and learn about and embrace Czech heritage and culture.
“This is such a great opportunity for us to connect to the Czech community beyond Cape Cod,” said Borowick. “There are nearly 1.3 million Czechs in the United States and the Embassy is trying to help connect us and support Czech business owners. With Nové, our next step is to bring our classes to a larger audience, so this event is a perfect fit for us.”
“We are very excited to connect with the Czech population over a glass of unique Czech wines,” Wills said. “This will allow anyone who shows up to the market to taste and purchase wine so they can have something on their Thanksgiving and Christmas table to share with friends. It is a taste of home for those from the Czech Republic and for our American friends, it is something quite special, unique, and delicious to try.”
Along with gift certificates which can be used to access both pre-recorded and live virtual classes at Nové, Borowick will be selling Nové merchandise, including T-shirts, sweatshirts, totes and jewelry designed in collaboration with T. Jazelle.
Wills will be bringing seven different varieties of Czech wines to the Czech Christmas Market.
