Veterans Center Offers Weekly Cafe For Those Who Served In Military

The Cape and Islands Veterans Outreach Center (CIVOC), in collaboration with the Yarmouth Senior Center and the Department of Veteran’s Affairs, will begin its Veteran’s Rendezvous Café,  Wednesday, July 6, from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Yarmouth Senior Center, Solarium Room, 528 Forest Road, West Yarmouth.

The program will continue weekly every Wednesday through the remainder of 2022 and is open to all veterans.

Given the lack of regular, convenient gatherings for veterans of the military, the café is intended to be a safe place for men and women veterans of all ages who are invited to gather and share camaraderie. At these gatherings, attendees will hear from veteran service providers while also experiencing interesting programs and activities, including barbecues, fishing trips and cooking demos, all provided to veterans free of charge. These events are also open to seasonal visitors to the Cape who have served in the military and are looking for a friendly face, a welcoming ear or perhaps even a hot cup of coffee to share with someone else for a couple of hours.

CIVOC is a tax-deductible, 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, and was founded in 1983 by a group of Vietnam veterans who did not find the services and programs they needed to successfully transition back to their communities anywhere in the region. CIVOC offers multiple comprehensive support services that empower veterans to achieve independence with dignity and respect.
